White Waltham Restoration Ltd leads the field in the restoration, conservation and use of vintage machinery. Our skill base has its roots in the thirty-plus years of experience in the use of vintage equipment by Carters Royal Berkshire Steam Fair, a name synonymous with exceptional standards. The company’s founder, Joby Carter, has a lifetime's experience in the use of vintage equipment in the commercial sphere.

The company's achievements include the complete mechanical and cosmetic overhaul of an 1896 Tidman centre engine and the mechanical overhaul of a 1927 set of German built Chairoplanes. Recently we completed an in-depth risk assessment and programme of alteration on a rare set of Savage steam yachts, including the introduction of a customer queuing system and dedicated exits to comply with current Health and Safety requirements. The alterations were undertaken with the historic importance and aesthetics of the machine in mind and now compliment the original design perfectly.

Our expertise is in no way limited to the fairground industry. During the winter we extensively overhauled the boilers from the Thames steam passenger launches ‘Alaska’ (1883) and ‘Nuneham’ (1898), both vessels which have had the honour of carrying HM Queen Elizabeth in recent years.

We are currently engaged in a complete rebuild of an extremely rare 1937 Fordson horsebox, a particularly challenging task due to the almost total disintegration of the original coach built body due to the incontinent nature of its former occupants!

The above by no means an exhaustive list of our recent projects, all of which are carried out alongside the ongoing maintenance, conservation and operation of the vintage equipment of Carters Steam Fair including its fleet of prime movers, many of which are now over fifty years old.
